Arrived here late Saturday, November 8th.  Almost caught up on our stops!  We got a great spot, 3 spots from the ocean!  Rosie likes it here, she found squirrels!  She will update you herself!  We went to the Boardwalk here and rode the huge ferris wheel!  Walked the Boardwalk and saw the Bowery Bar – where Country stars Alabama got their start.  We stayed at Ocean Lakes Family RV Campground, one of the country’s premier campgrounds.  We can see why, […]

  • Norfolk Navy Base and Jamestown

    thumbnail

Went to both the Navy Base and took a tour and went to Jamestown Historic American Island.  So much to see and so much to say. For security reasons we couldn’t taken any pictures of the piers, but here is one ship.  I am proud to be an American!  Jamestown was lovely!  The trees changing color and the craftsmanship of the people back then is amazing!

  • Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

    thumbnail

We arrived here November 1st.  There is so much to see here.  We visited Williamsburg, Jamestown, Norfolk Navy base and of course Tuffy Stones BBQ joint “Q” in Richmond! Loved Williamsburg most of all. I loved that the actors all stayed in character to the time period and involved the tourists as fellow citizens. The reading of the Declaration of Independence and even George Washington surveying his troops was awe inspiring. Now Tuffy’s BBQ is another thing all together.  Mouth […]

  • Washington DC

    thumbnail

We will be staying in the Manassas and the Washington DC area longer than we thought so we will have ample time to see everything in Washington DC that we want to.  On the upside, we have a long list of things to see.  The downside is that every time we went into the city our list got longer!  It would take a long time to see everything there is. We went to the White House, the Capitol, two of the 19 Smithsonian […]

Only about 40 miles from where we are staying in Haymarket, Virginia so we drove over for the day!  Sure am glad, it is beautiful here.  The Shenandoah River and Potomac River meet here.  Lovely!  And the leaves are changing so it is even more beautiful. The day was brisk because fall is finally here! Loved it!

The site of the first and Second battles at Manassas, also called the Battle of Bull Run.  These two battle actually gave the advantage to the confederate States and the North suffered their largest casualties of the war.  This is when both sides discovered that the Civil War would not be the quick war they thought it would be.  It was the year .

  • Gettysburg Pennsylvania – Civil War

    thumbnail

Site of the largest Civil War squirmish!  I thought it would be a small field!  Haha!  It was all of the area surrounding the town.  Massive area with battles and memorials all over.  Amazing!  The motor tour of the battl sites took us all day, and that was cutting some stops short.  You could spend a week here – just soaking up the history.

  • Blue Ridge Parkway

    thumbnail

Hanging out in the Blue Ridge Mountains is spectacular!  We drove only 100 miles of it, but hope to be back to drive some more of it. We went to the Natural Bridge near the Parkway and visited an old Civil War Train track.  We finished our trek with a stop in Roanoke at the Salvage Dawgs store.  We love their show and the shop is awesome.

Site of the Continental Army Winter Encampment of the Revolutionary War.  Site of Washington’s headquarters. Tough Winter for all of the Colonial Army! Amazing! The size of Valley Forge sites and all of the monuments was overwhelming.
