Memphis! Home of the Blues

Arrived in Memphis from Nashville.  Lots to see here.

First, we toured Beale street in downtown Memphis.  BB King has a restaurant here, lots of local, live entertainment at all of the bars and cafes.  Here are some great signs.    We went into the famous Schwabs General store. You can b’suy anything from old tin toys, felt hats to bib overalls! Cool. We toured the downtown main street too!  Lots of local talent and restaurants.  Also toured the Lorraine Hotel – the place where Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated.

We toured Sun Studios, where everyone: Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, BB King, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and a host of others recorded.  Elvis’ Graceland is also in Memphis.  Very touristy.

Went to the famous Germantown Commissary for some “stellar” BBQ!  It now ranks as our third favorite BBQ of all time, and that is up there.  Think I should start another page to rank the restaurants!?  Didn’t know we were going to become foodies!  Back to the BBQ:  We also went to Pigs on Beale, Central BBQ and Neely’s Interstate BBQ.  Central and Neely were featured on TV.  Randy had to try Neely’s BBQ spa1ghetti, and he loved it!  hmmm…  I stick to the ribs, pulled pork and chicken. You think we would be getting sick of BBQ, huh?  Well not yet.

[usr=5] The Commissary is our Third favorite restaurant so far, both in flavor and in atmosphere.  Rates very high in this adventure!

Getting ready to leave for Bennington Oklahoma.  Home of Russell Cook and Masterworks Dulcimer Makers.  Russell is the only one that I will buy when it comes to dulcimers!  More later…
